About
-
Matheson Lake Regional Park is 156 hectares in size
-
It’s near Roche Cove Regional Park and the Galloping Goose trail
-
In the early 1900s, the trail served as the railbed for the gas-powered Galloping Goose engines, which transported passengers and freight from Victoria to various northern and western locations
-
The section of the trail and the surrounding forest that now make up Matheson Lake Park were established in the 1950s, when the Matheson family donated the land to the Provincial Government
-
In the 1980s, the rails were removed as part of a Rails to Trails conversion
-
In 1994, the park became part of the Regional CRD Parks network
-
There is a 3.8km trail around the lake with some challenging sections
-
If you like to fish, the lake is stocked with rainbow trout
