About

  • The Lighthouse Country Regional Trail (LCRT) winds through vibrant coastal forests, offering a scenic journey through the enchanting landscapes of Qualicum Bay

  • The trail takes its name from the offshore lighthouses, one of which is located on Chrome Island

  • Development of the LCRT began in the late 1990s, when dedicated lighthouse trail volunteers carved out more than five kilometers of pathway along an undeveloped road allowance on the inland side of the E&N Railway

  • With its flat, well-maintained path, the trail is an ideal choice for a relaxed and accessible outing

  • While the trail can get busy and is shared with mountain bikers, it remains a wonderful option for enjoying nature at a leisurely pace

  • Lighthouse Country Regional Trail offers options for people of all abilities

  • The trail is divided into northern and southern sections, offering visitors a chance to explore the unique beauty of the rare coastal Douglas-fir forest

  • The north loop, along with nearby Wildwood Community Park, features approximately two kilometers of trail frequented by walkers and equestrians

  • The southern section offers around 2.5 kilometers of wheelchair-accessible pathway

  • The south section was made more accessible between 2010 and 2012, along with further updates in spring 2025 and includes a tapping rail for the visually impaired

  • If you’re a birder, you might find Pacific Wrens, Golden or Ruby Crowned Kinglets, and Song Sparrows while you’re exploring
