The name Cattle Point originated from when cattle were pushed overboard from paddle steamers to swim ashore between 1860 and 1910
The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada designated Cattle Point as an urban star park in 2013
It is now part of a network of dark-sky preserves, primarily located in remote and wilderness areas, that follow strict guidelines to protect the night sky for astronomical observation
