Cattle Point, once a historic landing spot for cattle in the 1800s, is now a designated urban star park offering stunning night sky views as part of Canada's dark-sky preserve network

  • Located in Oak Bay, Cattle Point is across from Uplands Park

  • The name Cattle Point originated from when cattle were pushed overboard from paddle steamers to swim ashore between 1860 and 1910

  • The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada designated Cattle Point as an urban star park in 2013

  • It is now part of a network of dark-sky preserves, primarily located in remote and wilderness areas, that follow strict guidelines to protect the night sky for astronomical observation
