Nestled in nature, Florence Lake is encircled by the scenic Strachan Trail, complete with two boardwalks that make perfect spots for fishing and quiet reflection. Along the trail, you’ll find some of the most peaceful views in all of Langford.
On the north shore, a convenient boat launch offers easy access to the water, ideal for paddling out and exploring the lake.
In the summertime, the lake becomes a refreshing escape from the heat, perfect for a swim. And come autumn, the trees transform, surrounding the lake with a vibrant display of colour.
Trees in the area include Douglas fir, Western red cedar, and Arbutus.
The Strachan Trail winds its way around much of Florence Lake, with one scenic stretch weaving through the forest before looping back to the water’s edge.
Along the way, two boardwalks offer great spots to cast a line (the lake is stocked with trout).
The trail is mostly a flat route that’s perfect for a relaxed walk, a morning run, or a bit of peaceful bird watching.
As you stroll along the trail, you might find yourself thinking about one of Florence Lake’s most curious local legends, the tale of the sunken piano.
Long before there was road access to the west shore of the lake, homes were built here, and everything from lumber to furniture had to be ferried across by boat.
According to the story, one ambitious homeowner tried to bring a piano across the lake. But somewhere along the journey, the boat capsized… and the piano was lost to the depths below.
No one’s ever found it, but the legend lives on.
