Gamble Park is a neighbourhood green space in Colwood, featuring mature trees, a fish ladder, and access from nearby residential roads

Location

About

  • Gamble Park is just over one hectare in size and is classified as a neighbourhood park

  • The park is bordered by Millstream Creek and homes on Gamble Place and Tamarack Road, with both roads offering access to the area

  • Gamble Park is named in honour of the Gamble family, early settlers who made a lasting impact on the Colwood area

  • In 1906, Robert and Jessie Gamble established a farm on this land, cultivating a thriving orchard with fruit trees such as apples, pears, and plums

  • Their dedication to the land helped shape the agricultural heritage of the region

  • Following the passing of the Gamble family, the property was sold and later designated for public use

  • Today, Gamble Park serves the community as a cherished green space, preserving the spirit of its farming roots and the legacy of the family who first nurtured it

  • Gamble Park was dedicated as a municipal lot in 1977, and the City of Colwood took over maintenance in 1985

  • There is a fish ladder in the creek that borders the park which is monitored by Fisheries and Oceans Canada and is most likely used by salmon

  • Mature Garry oak, maple, cedar, and fir trees are found throughout the park, contributing to its high, shaded canopy

  • Thanks to the City of Colwood for providing the background on this park
