Matheson Lake Regional Park
Matheson Lake Regional Park in Metchosin offers forested trails, trout fishing, and lakeside views along a former railway line turned hiking route

Location
Metchosin
About
Matheson Lake Regional Park is 156 hectares in size
It’s near Roche Cove Regional Park and the Galloping Goose trail
In the early 1900s, the trail served as the railbed for the gas-powered Galloping Goose engines, which transported passengers and freight from Victoria to various northern and western locations
The section of the trail and the surrounding forest that now make up Matheson Lake Park were established in the 1950s, when the Matheson family donated the land to the Provincial Government
In the 1980s, the rails were removed as part of a Rails to Trails conversion
In 1994, the park became part of the Regional CRD Parks network
There is a 3.8km trail around the lake with some challenging sections
If you like to fish, the lake is stocked with rainbow trout

Metchosin is on the ancestral territory of the Sc'ianew (Beecher Bay) First Nation. It also shares this territory with the neighbouring communities of the Ts'ouke (Sooke) and the Lekwungen peoples.
