About
Peacock Hill Park is located in Saanich and is 1.15 hectares.
Perched on a hilltop, this natural state park is nestled among surrounding residential neighbourhoods at the border of Saanich and Victoria.
The park can be accessed from Tolmie Avenue, with additional trail entrances off Cook Street.
Rustic trails wind through the landscape, offering scenic views of Mount Douglas and the distant Sooke Hills (source).
There are a couple of stories about how the park got its name. In the spring, the Peacock flower or Shooting Star can be found on the hill. But the park may have been named after John Peacock who raised pigs on the hill before Saanich became a municipality. Peacock lived at the intersection of Tolmie and Bellevue.
A March 30, 2003 article in the Times Colonist notes that the Garry Oak Preservation Society recognized Alan Henley’s work to remove garbage and invasive species from the park over a ten year period (source).
