About

  • The Ross Bay Native Plant Garden was established in 2024 and is managed by the Fairfield Gonzales Community Association.

  • The garden is located next to Ross Bay Cemetery on Memorial Crescent, between Dallas Road and Bushby Street.

  • The Fairfield Community Gardens Volunteer Coordinator, working with residents and volunteers, guides the garden’s care through regular volunteer work parties. This is a community-led, perennial native plant garden created for the community and maintained by the community.

  • Everyone is welcome, as long as the plants and pathways are treated with care. The space is intended as an outdoor classroom where residents and students can learn about local native plants and how they thrive with minimal upkeep.

  • Several plants are edible or medicinal. Visitors are welcome to harvest fruit they can confidently identify, such as salal berries, strawberries, serviceberries, yarrow, nodding onion, and Oregon grape. Signs throughout the garden help identify each plant. (source: fairfieldcommunity.ca)
